Sparkling Rosé, Pétillant Naturel of Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, 2020
2020 was a very warm and dry year in Sonoma County. With very little rainfall in the winter and a warmer than average growing season, our vines ripened much earlier than usual. This Pinot Noir was picked very early in a sparkling style, whole cluster pressed immediately off the skins and fermented in a stainless steel tank until about 1.8 brix. At that point, the wine was put into bottles to finish fermentation under a crown cap. This allowed pressure to build as the wine went to dryness which gives this wine its delicate bubbles and delicious texture.
The first thing to notice on this Carneros Pet Nat is the beautiful color. A delicate blush pink just looks incredibly inviting. The nose is full of bright berry fruit, floral notes of rose petals and gardenias and a hint of fresh baked pie crust. The palate is really lively and bright and finishes with a delicious crispness. This really is a perfect wine for a hot summer afternoon.
