2018 Bacigalupi Pinot Noir
2018 was a winemakers dream vintage. From a very wet winter and very cold spring, budbreak and bloom were pushed out about 3 weeks on average. The growing season was just a touch cooler than usual with lots of our characteristic foggy mornings. In mid-August, the weather got unseasonably cool for us here in Sonoma County and that let the fruit hang on the vines for an extra couple weeks while accumulating flavor without sugar increasing. The extra hang time led to an intensity in the finished wines that is just hard to beat!
Our 2018 Pinot Noir is filled with floral notes of fresh picked violets, rose petal and orange blossom, followed by bright raspberry, vanillin, and the tiniest lacing of black pepper throughout. The palate is high-toned with more raspberry, red currant and sandalwood dominating. The finish lingers for days on your tongue. This wine is still in its youth and I can’t wait to watch it open up over the next few years.
