Petite Sirah, Grey Palm Estate Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley, 2017
2017 was a warm vintage in Sonoma County. We had lower than average rainfall over the winter and an early budbreak, with some vines starting to wake up as early as mid-February. Harvest was a little earlier than usual by about two weeks but all the wines from this vintage have a beautiful intensity to them.
The nose of this wine is deep and brooding with dried plum, blackberry liquor, roasted strawberry, a touch of tarragon and black pepper spice. The palate is huge and chewy with black licorice, fruit leather, roasted Santa Rosa plums and tons of tannins. Decant before serving. This wine should continue to age gracefully for the next 5-7 years.
