2017 Bacigalupi Pinot Noir
From the cooler 2016 vintage came a fast and furious – and WARM – 2017 vintage. With lower than average rainfall over the winter, we hit budbreak and bloom quite early. The crop size was actually quite large given the low rainfall. The growing season was warmer than average, with low fog and high temperatures. All these factors brought us to picking the 2017 about 2 weeks earlier than the previous few vintages to preserve the delicate nature and fruit characters of this Pinot Noir.
Our 2017 Bacigalupi Pinot Noir is a great showcase of its vintage. Warm fruit notes on the nose of baked plum gallette, freshly made blackberry jam with vanilla bean and the more subtle character of cardamom, clove and anise really make this wine pop. The palate has great texture and balances ripe fruit characters with just a hint of earthiness and coffee grounds. The finish is lingering and full and makes you want to take another sip.
