Pinot Noir, Bacigalupi Vineyard, RRV, Magnum, 2016
2016 was a stellar vintage in Russian River Valley. With higher than average rainfall in the winter, to a warm but not too hot growing season, the conditions were just right for Pinot Noir. Russian River Valley got plenty of foggy mornings with warmer afternoons all summer long, which allowed for slow ripening of these grapes and tons of flavor development.
We are now 5 years in to this wine’s life and I think we may be at the early stages still. This wine is a stunner. Aromas of deep cassis, roasted strawberry, crushed candied violets and a hint of clove really pop on the nose. The palate is lush and full-bodied on the front, with lots of lingering red fruit notes: red Santa Rosa plums, ripe red currant and lush raspberry coulis. The finish is surprisingly light and delicate feeling with a gentle acidity and just a hint of tannin. This wine is tasting delicious and would be even better paired with your favorite meal.
